Workplace Conduct

Fair working conditions

We respect labor rights. All employees should be adequately compensated for their work and treated fairly. We subscribe to international labor standards and require them for ourselves and for everyone working in our supply chain. We help our colleagues to develop professionally as a way of driving engagement and performance, in support of our values and our attractiveness as a company.

This means that we:

  • Comply with all applicable laws regarding working hours, wages and benefits
  • Uphold our colleagues’ right to form and join trade unions and bargain collectively
  • Maintain a dialogue with labor organizations, trade unions and workers’ representatives
  • Take responsibility to contribute actively to our own learning and personal development as well as that of our colleagues and provide each other with constructive feedback
  • Report any unfair working conditions at Skanska or any of our subcontractors or suppliers
Remember: Fair labor practices also mean respecting human rights.

I overheard that a subcontractor on our project pays their employees less than the minimum wage and their employees are working excessive hours. Should I report this?

Yes. Working hours and wages must comply with our Code and applicable law. Report your concern to your manager or the HR team so that it can be investigated.

While onboarding a new subcontractor team to work on our project, I found two workers who couldn’t show that they had the right documentation to work. Everyone on the team is critical to completing the project on time and we don’t want any delays. What should I do?

Contact your manager for guidance. Workers are only allowed on our sites if they can provide proper proof of their right to work. We require approved and pre-registered subcontractors and workers on our worksites, which helps to ensure a fair and safe workplace.
