Conflicts of interest occur when there is a conflict between our personal interests and our responsibilities to Skanska. Even the appearance of a conflict of interest can be as damaging as an actual conflict. We must disclose and manage all conflict-of-interest situations properly.
This means that we:

Conflicts of interest arise when our private interests, personal relationships or activities outside Skanska influence, or appear to influence, our ability to make objective decisions, which could negatively affect Skanska. Conflicts of interest can develop in the offering, giving or accepting of hospitality and entertainment, gifts, charitable contributions, political contributions or sponsorships, and in cases where our close relationships could interfere with our responsibilities to Skanska. These conflicts may also arise when we are involved with a business that competes with or engages in business with Skanska.

My brother owns an excavating company and would like to submit a tender for a project that I work on. I’m not directly involved with the tender or managing the project, so can my brother proceed with the tender submission?
Your brother can submit a tender for the project, but you must report the relationship to your manager so that the potential conflict of interest can be recorded and managed. You must not become involved in the procurement process, including any decision-making concerning the tender.

I am about to renovate my house, which will be a substantial project. I would like to save some costs. One Skanska supplier privately offered to give me the same discounted price that they give to Skanska. May I accept this offer?
Yes, but only if you are clear with the supplier that this is a private purchase and has no effect on Skanska business. You want to ensure that there is no expectation of more work for Skanska because of the discount. Always keep private life and work at Skanska separate.

I have a small, local business hiring out construction equipment. As Skanska works in this area and sometimes uses similar equipment, could there be a conflict?
Yes, your side business creates a possible conflict of interest between your personal interests and your responsibilities toward Skanska. So, your side business must be disclosed and approved following your business unit’s conflicts-of-interest procedure.
